What Are Hemorrhoids And Exactly Who Gets Them?

It is actually very simple. Any person can suffer from hemorrhoids. The fact is that over 50% of any population will at least once in its life time suffer from hemorrhoids.

Although normally suffered by the adult population, recent trends indicate that it is increasing amongst the youth population.

This is because of several causes, largely associated with unhealthy lifestyles: unhealthy food, alcohol consumption and too little exercise.

However, it is proven that men generally suffer more than women from hemorrhoids. There are several factors that can make one more prone to hemorrhoids.

It is quite clear that nutrition is an important factor in the subject of hemorrhoids. Make sure to eat lots of fiber rich foods so that your bowel can move easily and naturally.

It is also important that you drink plenty of water throughout the day. This will afford your bowels a lot easier movements.

If you spend much of your day sitting in a chair, you can put a pillow on the chair for an additional cushion.

Sitting for too long in a chair can directly cause hemorrhoids, make sure to take short leg-stretching breaks  so as to decrease the pressure on the anus.

Below is a list of factors that can stimulate hemorrhoids:

  • Having to push hard when passing stool (constipation)
  • Diarrhea
  • Pregnancy: temporary relaxation of the sphincter muscle
  • Sitting on the toilet for too long
  • Being Overweight
  • Chronic constriction
  • Lack of exercise
  • Poor diet
  • Drugs and mainly as a side effect of such agents containing iron, diuretics and some anti-depressants
